Photo etching is a very efficient method of manufacture for engineering and product prototypes.
The tooling cost is very low in comparison with machine tooling and the parts will be stress and burr free.
Different metals and thicknesses can be prototyped rapidly and any design CAD changes that are required can be implemented at a low cost.
Both stamping and laser cutting were ruled out as a production method due to cost and technical difficulties.
The photograph shows a series of ventilation grills for a main frame computer which were taken from the early development design phase right through to full production.
